I began to realize that I felt more and more comfortable here in Co. Antrim.
This is not my residence, and likely won't ever be, but in a real
sense, it is my home. Since my ancestors, the Youngs (Lamonts),
originally from around the Glasgow area in Scotland, escaped death at the
hands of the Campbells in 1646, during the English Civil War, by leaving
Scotland to settle in Larne, Co. Antrim, I have physical evidence that I am
"from" Larne in my ancestor's house and the ruins of thier
linen mill on the Ballygowan Road near Larne, and also the evidence of the
family names in Larne. So, Co. Antrim is, in a very real sense, my home.
After I got up on Thursday, I went outside to read have some quiet time
alone, which you can really have in Ballintoy - the main sound in the
mornings is the bleating of the sheep and the singing of the birds!
Unlike here in Raleigh, there was no background noise of distant cars
on the beltline. There was a nice breeze blowing. On Wednesday,
it had been very still and overcast, and the sea was actually flat - no waves! But,
this day was more normal in that way - breezy and overcast.
This was laundry day, so it was good it was breezy. While the laundry
was drying on the line, Brandy and I took a walk up toward the Carrick-A-Rede
Rope Bridge where she had walked the day before. We took some pictures
of the area around there, and the view from the top of this hill was
wonderful! So here are pictures in order of our walk. (Note: You can
click the ones with underlined text below them to see a full-sized
picture.)
Yes, there is some amazing scenery there! After the walk, we checked
our laundry, then went into Bushmills to shop for groceries, get
Traveler's Cheques cashed, etc., and on the way back took a side
excursion to Ballintoy Harbour. A winding, narrow road led us past a church
(where there was a wedding in progress) and down to the harbour. Here
are some pictures around the harbour.
While we were there, the fog rolled in quickly, and we went back to the
hostel to check on our drying clothes. We ate lunch, took a nap, and
afterwards, I tuned up for the concert that night and played a bit.
Then we got dressed for the evening and went into Bushmills for supper. We were
pleasantly surprised to find Jenny and Tony Coxon there eating, so we joined
them and got to visit a little. Christine and Sheila came
in to eat while we were there, too. Then we left for Portrush where
the "Early Bird" concert was to be at the Springhill Bar that
night. The line-up for the concert was Lisa & Heather Malyuk,
Jenny Coxon, myself and Christie Burns & Butch Ross. We did get a
few pictures of the concert and session that followed.
