Brandy and I had set the clock for 6:30AM and were fully intending to go to the
8:00AM service at St. Finnbarre's Cathedral. When I sat up on the side
of the bed, I knew there was no way! I had a headache and would not make it
through the day if I didn't get some more sleep, so Brandy got up and went to
the service while I finished sleeping. She said there were 10 people in
that cavernous sanctuary for the Eucharist, and that the service was very short!
I had gotten up about the time she got back to the apartment. Other were up, too, and we ate and made out our playlist for the performance that evening. By the time we all got ready, and had made the playlist and tuned our instruments, it was nearly time to go to the Corner House pub where the closing events would take place. It was a fairly long walk with all that stuff, and there were people, John Burns and Jack, who were there to take instruments and people in their cars from the apartments to the Corner House. Brandy and I rode with Rob Thornburgh who was leaving from there to return to his home in County Mayo.

The first event of the day started at 2PM - Cliff Moses, a Texan, was giving a
workshop on playing a hammered dulcimer in an Irish session. He had
invited David James, another American, Rob Thornburgh, from Co. Mayo, and a
couple of local musicians, Dave and Andy, to be part of a discussion panel on the
topic. Some good information was discussed.
After the workshop, Cindy Ribet and Friends (Cindy, Jim Plitt, Emily Hancock, and myself) set up to perform. Our set was lively and fun, but not perfect by any means (of course, none ever are). However, the people seemed to like what we did. We played Old-Time, some Celtic, and some original tunes (Isn't that what we always play?!).
|
Brandy and I left the closing festivities early since we had a 7:30AM flight
home the next morning, which meant we had to have the taxi pick us up about
5:45AM! We packed and got some sleep before the alarm went off at 5:00AM!
The taxi came on time, but he couldn't get the car boot open, so he called another
car which turned out to be a van.

We easily loaded things into the van and left for the airport. Here is a picture out the airplane window just as we left Cork on Monday morning headed for Raleigh!
