Cork Dulcimer Festival 2002 - Pre-Festival Report and Pictures - July 24

On Wednesday, I got up at about 6:30AM - with only about 4-1/2 or 5 hours of sleep!  But the morning was beautiful with scattered clouds and blue sky!  We both dressed and I tuned and played my dulcimer for the first time since we arrived.  I had looked it over after we got to the apartments to make sure it was OK after the trip, and it was.  When we were both ready, we went to a place called Rearden's on Washington Street for breakfast.  Very good!!  Then we wandered around and played tourist.  Below are some of the pictures we took.

After all that, we went to a store called Dunnes, bought food for the kitchen, then went back to the apartment to have lunch.  I took a nap, wrote some postcards, had fruit and coffee for lunch, then started out late in the afternoon to be tourists again when we ran into John Burns who was on his way to meet Christie at a pub called The Bailey.  We hung out at the pub with John and Christie for a while.  Christie's Mom called from Blarney where she and a friend, Peg, were, saying they'd missed the bus, so John and Brandy went to get them in the car.  Christie and I stayed at the pub and visited.

Around the time John and company got back to the pub, John Devonshire and Irene Stuart had come in, and were visiting.  They were headed off for supper.  The rest of us left the pub and headed over to a restaurant called The Strasbourg Goose where we ate supper.  Pretty good food, if a bit expensive.  While waiting for the food to come, Christie's cellphone rang.  It was Cindy from Chicago.  Chicago!  They were supposed to be in Shannon!!  It's a long story, but they had flight problems, were re-routed through Chicago, and would be in the next day.

After supper, Peg, Christie, Brandy and I walked up to the Corner House pub on Coburg Street where the Sunday events would take place to hear the session.  We partook of some Guinness, and the music, and headed back to the apartments at about 11:45PM for a good night's sleep.
