Slow Jams in Chattanooga! |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Sometime in 2008, we will begin holding
monthly slow jams at our home in
Chattanooga. The slow jam is something we started in Raleigh a couple of years ago (before we moved),
and the Raleigh one continues still, even though we're gone from there!
All acoustic instruments and singers will be welcome, though this is primarily to provide a slow jam opportunity for beginning hammered dulcimer players. However, any beginning acoustic player is welcome. We did find the slow jam a good opportunity for more advanced players to work on new techniques or on playing accompaniment, but as I said, it is geared to beginning hammered dulcimer players. Note that we will primarily play Irish, Scottish, and Old-Time music. This is not a fast jam. For that, you need to go to one of the other fine sessions in the area. These jams are for beginners who want to learn to play in groups, or just want the time to play with others.
Another good source of basic tune melodies for Irish tunes is
here. Click on the links
for the Session Tune Books 1 & 2. This page is put up by Virgil Sealy
of the Raleigh, NC, area, and lists tunes which were used in the PINECONE Irish Session.
Please if you are interested in participating, or for more
information about and directions to the Slow Jams.
